Business Spotlight: EmpowHer by 180 Fitness

The Georgia Virtue Business Spotlight Series features local businesses that function as the backbone of our communities. The series is sponsored by Bulloch Solutions.

The doors at EmpowHer by 180 Fitness have been open for several months now, but new management, a few overhauls, and a fresh approach to making fitness fun have many giving the ladies-only gym a new consideration.

We recently sat down with General Manager Mindy Fair to discuss the new satellite location of the well-known 180 Fitness owned by Brandon Blair, Angie Hitchens, and Kevin Felton.

The EmpowHer location is home of the previous LOA Fitness on Northside Drive. The building known for housing a gym, however, is ripe with changes including more personal training sessions, group training activities, a more expansive exercise class schedule, extended hours, and additional child care accommodations.

Fair, a familiar face at the location on Fair Road, has been in fitness and exercise in various capacities for 25 years. She recently moved from her longtime home at 180 Fitness to take on operations at EmpowHer, a change her clientele has excitedly embraced. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience and a background in group training classes such as spin, step, Barre, boot camp, and much more. Additionally, you’ll find a handful of fresh faces at the front desk, in personal training, and teaching group classes.

Fair said there’s been tons of enthusiasm for the new vision at EmpowHer, the only full-service women-focused only gym in Statesboro. The 5,000 square foot facility doesn’t offer the overwhelming feel some gyms do but there’s plenty of room for members at any time of the day. Even still, EmpowHer is offering a number of incentives for newbies to come by for a visit – including trial memberships-, tours, gym-wide challenges to spice up the competition, and the gym now has a private room for body assessments when you join. “I like that it’s very female focused. You get a great workout and it’s just a different feel and a huge focus on making sure everyone is comfortable,” Fair said.

A membership includes childcare and group fitness classes and there’s a 3-month, 6-month membership, and paid-in-full yearly packages in addition to the month-to-month membership program.

And don’t worry – they are taking all of the necessary COVID-19 precautions to protect members and staff, including taking temperatures upon entry, socially distanced machines and equipment, and frequent disinfecting spray downs of just about everything in the gym. But if you’re not comfortable heading into the gym, there are a few virtual programs offered by EmpowHer, too – the details of which can be dished by a staff member when you inquire.

When it comes down to it, the new gym is different because of the purpose, Fair said.

“EmpowHer is created for women. We know the stresses the women face and how essential it is to take care of ourselves, but also how challenging that can be. We are here to help local women reach their personal health goals. Our culture is all about empowerment and lifting each other up. Our vision is to make a difference in the lives of those in our area by arming our members with the latest, most effective workouts and nutrition plans to help them flourish.”
