VIDEO: Bulloch County SO Uses Drone to Assist Emanuel County with Stabbing Investigation

The Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office on the evening of Wednesday, April 13 with regard to a stabbing investigation.

Authorities were attempting to apprehend a subject believed to have stabbed two people.

Sheriff Noel Brown directed Captain Todd Hutchens and Investigator Will Sims to assist the agency with a BCSO drone that utilizes F.L.I.R. capability.

The Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Darrick Alcott Mann, 45 years old of Swainsboro, after interviewing witnesses. After the altercation, Mann fled into the woods. A Swainsboro PD Detective with canine, Maya, was requested and responded to assist with the search.

According to the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, after being airborne for only a short period of time drone operators were able to locate the wanted subject and guide Emanuel County Deputies to his exact location.

Mann was located in the woods and arrested. Mann is being held in the Emanuel County Detention Center on Aggravated Assault charges.

The 41-year-old female victim and the 22-year-old female victim, both with stab wounds, were treated by EMS and transported to trauma centers.

Sheriff Brown said Monday that he would like to thank Captain Hutchens and Investigator Sims for their quick response. He would also like to thank all members of the Sheriff’s U.A.V. Unit. All members of this team of drone pilots have to undergo a certification process and volunteer to be part of a 24-hour on-call list. Most of them are already on-call for their regular jobs, and take this additional assignment on a voluntary basis. The U.A.V. unit recently assisted Bryan County in attempting to locate injured persons after tornados struck that community.
