As GA Prepares for Next Round of Eligibility, New Website Launches for Vax Appts

As Georgia prepares to integrate the next round of demographics and eligible persons for the COVID-19 vaccination, the Georgia Department of Health has launched a new website to streamline the process for making an appointment.

Those who are currently eligible to receive a vaccine can go ahead and connect with a provider. Those who are not yet eligible to receive the vaccine can use the website contact form to enroll to receive email updates on pre-registration and real-time updates on eligibility.

As of February 22, 2021, only group 1A+ can receive the shots in Georgia. That group includes health care workers, long-term care residents and staff, people 65 years and older (and their caregivers), and emergency responders.

Georgia also plans to begin receiving nearly 200,000 doses weekly, beginning this week. The increase is up approximately 80,000 vaccines per week from the initial distribution of 120,000 doses originally.

The Department of Public Health says that the Federal Government authorizes states to order a maximum number of vaccines each week. Putting seniors and healthcare, law enforcement, fire and public safety personnel first, Georgia orders the maximum number of vaccines available to our state.

Beginning Monday, there will also be four locations at which Georgians can receive a vaccination for COVID-19. The state operated sites are located in Bibb (Macon), Dougherty (SWGA), Fulton (Atlanta), and Habersham (NEGA) counties.

“These four sites are an important next step in our continued vaccination efforts to protect our most vulnerable and at-risk Georgians,” Kemp said last week. “By strategically locating these sites near historically underserved communities, we will ensure more Georgians have access to the life-saving vaccine. These mass vaccination locations will be able to scale up quickly from the initial 22,000 doses per week capacity once the state is provided more supply from the federal government.”
