Georgia House Democratic Caucus Elects Officers

The Georgia House Democratic Caucus met and elected its key leaders on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. The House Minority Caucus re-elected House Minority Leader James Beverly (D-Macon) to his current position.

The Minority Caucus also elected the following caucus members for leadership positions:

  • State Rep. Billy Mitchell (D-Stone Mountain), House Minority Caucus Chairman;
  • State Rep. Karen Bennett (D-Stone Mountain); House Minority Caucus Vice-Chairman;
  • State Rep. Sam Park (D-Lawrenceville), House Minority Whip;
  • State Rep. Sandra Scott (D-Rex), House Minority Chief Deputy Whip;
  • State Rep. Park Cannon (D-Atlanta), House Minority Caucus Secretary;
  • State Rep. Shea Roberts (D-Atlanta), House Minority Caucus Treasurer.

Representative James Beverly currently represents the citizens of District 143, which includes portions of Bibb County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2011 and currently serves as House Minority Leader. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and on the Ethics, Health & Human Services, Retirement, Rules, Small Business Development and Special Rules committees.

Representative Billy Mitchell currently represents the citizens of District 88, which includes portions of DeKalb County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as Chairman of the House Minority Caucus. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and the Banks & Banking, Health & Human Services and Regulated Industries committees. 

Representative Karen Bennett currently represents the citizens of Districts 94, which includes portions of DeKalb and Gwinnett counties. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 and currently serves as Vice Chair of the House Minority Caucus. She also serves on the Code Revision, Economic Development & Tourism, Health & Human Services and Regulated Industries committees.

Representative Sam Park currently represents the citizens of District 101, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2016 and currently serves as the House Minority Caucus Whip. He also serves on the Higher Education, Industry and Labor, Intragovernmental Coordination and Small Business Development committees.

Representative Sandra Scott currently represents the citizens of District 76, which includes portions of Clayton and Henry counties. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and currently serves as the House Minority Caucus Deputy Whip. She also serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Human Relations & Aging, Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment, Science and Technology and Special Rules committees.

Representative Park Cannon currently represents the citizens of District 58, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2016 and currently serves as the House Minority Caucus Secretary. She also serves on the Code Revision, Human Relations & Aging, Insurance, Creative Arts & Entertainment, Ethics and Small Business Development committees.

Representative Shea Roberts currently represents the citizens of District 52, which includes portion of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves as the House Minority Caucus Treasurer. She also serves on the Governmental Affairs, State Planning & Community Affairs and Science and Technology committees.
