F1RST Friday: Aspen Aerogels’ Downtown Paw Walk

The Downtown Statesboro Development Authority will be hosting its ninth annual Downtown Paw Walk and on March 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the downtown dog park.

It’s time to celebrate with our furry friends! This F1RST Friday, presented by Aspen Aerogels, is a chance to do just that. The Downtown Paw Walk is an opportunity to bring your dogs to the Downtown Dog Park and show them all the fun Statesboro has to offer.

If you think your dog is up to the competition, dress them up in their cutest costume and enter the dog costume contest. In order to participate in the dog costume contest, people must register at the event between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The contest begins at 6:30 p.m. and winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m.  The event will take place at the Downtown Dog Park located at 20 East Cherry Street.

“All dogs, no matter the size, are invited to enter our dog costume contest. Pets can be some of the best family members we have, and this event is the perfect chance to show your appreciation. We want to show people how pet friendly the downtown area is” said Allen Muldrew, Executive Director of the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority.

Prizes for our participants have been made possible by donations from local businesses like Chick-Fil-A, Petco, Soyumi Asian Kitchen, Cindy Lou’s Dos, Three Tree Coffee Roasters, Eagle Creek Brewery, Boro The Hatchet, Sew Much Fun and Auto Shine Car Wash. The prize baskets will  include treats for owners and doggies alike. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded in both the large and small dog categories as well as special awards that our judges will pick.

The Humane Society, Fixing the Boro, Aspen Aerogels, and the DSDA are also hosting a donation drive. Donations will be collected all the way up until the end of the event. The list of items needed can be found on our website

Even if you don’t have a pet to bring with you, come enjoy the show! There will be music provided by DJ Randy, a bouncy house, vendors, and food trucks. If you are a dog lover, or just want to experience Downtown Statesboro, this event is perfect for you.

First Fridays are possible by the support of the following sponsors: Vyve Broadband, Morris Bank, McLendon Enterprises, Party Impressions, East Georgia Center for Oral and Facial Surgery, Georgia Power, Party Harbor, Coca Cola, Statesboro Properties, Shoemaker Equipment Supply, Southern Chiropractic & Wellness Center, American Roofing, Wells Fargo Advisors, Colony Bank, Statesboro Oral Surgery, CORE Credit Union, Tormenta FC, McKeithen’s True Value, and Aspen Aerogels .
