A video leaked from Smith State Prison shows a violent inmate-on-inmate fight from Friday that ultimately sent four to the hospital.
The video, captured from the second floor of the dormitory, shows several inmates with knives and shanks stabbing another inmate, who is on the ground, repeatedly. Grunts and moans can be heard as the inmate is stabbed multiple times. He eventually crawls to a bench to take cover before the video ends.
The person recording the video is talking as the fight takes place and he is complaining that ‘this’ is what he has to deal with ‘every day.’ No corrections officers can be seen in the video.

TGV News published a photo Friday showing two ambulances and three helicopters in the yard of the Warden’s house at Smith State Prison.
The Georgia Department of Corrections said four individuals were transported to area hospitals. Tattnall County EMS called for the assistance of three life flight helicopters due to the nature of the injuries. A GDC spokesperson told WSAV that they do not decide when an inmate is life flighted out, essentially blaming the costly transport options on Tattnall County EMS. Local paramedics are currently responding to Smith State Prison multiple times per week.
GDC, however, minimized Friday’s incident saying it was contained to just one dorm and that injuries were ‘non-life-threatening.’
Friday’s fight followed another stabbing Wednesday, which left a 31-year-old inmate dead. GDC has not commented on that death other than to say it is being investigated as a homicide. First responders also transported two individuals on Monday of the same week for a stabbing and an assault with a pipe.
Smith State Prison in Glennville has been the hub for a host of issues inside and outside of the prison, but the Georgia Department of Corrections has failed to make any changes to improve conditions for the staff or inmates.
I think it’s sad that it is viewed as an inmate “complaining” about having to deal with this violence everyday. Even though they are incarcerated they shouldn’t HAVE to deal with this type of violence. The GDC is charged with their safety and apparently they can’t seem to do that. Also the GDC blaming Tattnall County EMS for the “costly” transport is just appalling. If the GDC would change the dynamics of the inmate population at Smith it would help change the conditions.

News reported the new warden has every one at Smith Prison feeling so much better. Just lately a fight of abt 7 inmates caused a death, fight of 4 inmates has 3 air lifted for medical & 1 by van for medical. An inmate committed suicide & wasn’t found for 4/5 days. Bradley (Tattnall coroner) reported decomposition was so bad he had to use 2 body bags. All of this was reported by Savannah & Atlanta news & was the recent altercations. Our local news won’t touch it, they’re too afraid of stepping on their friend’s toes to actually report the news. I filled out the brief form regarding the prison expansion planned by the state. It’s not being taken seriously for sure! This is body shaking scary knowing these fights can spill out into the towns. Where is the over sight? Why is nothing being done? I know the inmates may not be getting the citizen of the month award any time soon, but they are human beings.
As an inmate of Smith state prison, it’s sad to say that what happened in this incident is something that is seemingly of the norm 🤦♂️
