New US 280 Signal Activation May 10 at I-16 Interchange

Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) officials announced this past week that beginning on Wednesday, May 10, activation of two new signalized interchange ramps on US Route 280 at the Interstate16 interchange (Exit 143)in Bryan County will take place.

Georgia DOT crews in preparations for the activations will install traffic signals at eastbound and westbound off ramps and restripe the intersections. Message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the new traffic signal locations and activation date.

While not expected to be in service for the Wednesday morning commute, the signal should be fully functional by mid-day, weather permitting. Local law enforcement will handle traffic control during activations to enhance safety. This signal activation is weather contingent and subject to change.

Motorists are always advised to proceed cautiously through intersections, but most certainly so next week during activation and the days to follow as drivers become acclimated to the new signals.

The two traffic signals at the US 280 and I-16 interchange are an interim operational improvement to enhance current travel around the new Bryan County Mega-Site development. Georgia DOT is also advancing three transportation projects, US 280 Widening (P.I. 0016618), I-16 Frontage Road (P.I. 0019452), and I-16 at Old Cuyler Road Interchange (P.I. 0019451), that will support connectivity and provide more efficient access to new developments in the county. The three transportation projects include roadway widening and roundabouts along US 280 and the interchange ramps, a new Frontage Road along I-16, and a new interchange location on I-16 at Old Cuyler Road.
