Top Archery Talent Recognized at the Collegiate Target Nationals

An outstanding 2023 USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals inside Georgia Southern University provided exceptional competition last weekend, while also affording the college archery community to recognize the incredible work done by athletes and coaches throughout the last year.

Congratulations go to all recipients, including those named to the 2023 All-American Team, plus those receiving the 2023 All-Around Archer of the Year Award.

The All-American Team is composed of the top 25 per cent of archers (rounded up to nearest whole number) in each Division and Class that participated in both USA Archery Indoor Nationals and USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals in the same division (maximum 10).

These are calculated by taking the combined arrow average from the Indoor Nationals and the qualification round of Collegiate Target Nationals. The maximum point value an archer can receive from each event is 10, for a combined score of 20.

Meanwhile, USA Archery’s Collegiate All-Around Archer of the Year Award recognized outstanding collegiate archers based on placement at Collegiate 3D Nationals, Indoor Nationals, and Collegiate Target Nationals (Qualification Round).

Participation in all three events is required to be eligible. This award is based on these three events within the same academic year, and is presented to one athlete in each gender and division.

“Going into this college year I knew I would be busy since it was my senior year,” admitted Anna Scarbrough. “And I was completing some of my more difficult classes. Because of my hectic class schedule, I really focused on getting more purposeful practices in when shooting so that I could accomplish the goals I set for myself.

“I did not have the expectation of getting archer of the year again this year, my main goal was just to spend as much time improving my archery in both 3D and target archery. These awards show that all the hard work I have put into my archery as well as my studies throughout college has paid off.”

The 2023 Collegiate National Coach of the Year was also announced during the Collegiate Target Nationals, with E.G. LeBre of Brandeis University, MIT, and Wellesley College retaining the award he received last year.
