Operation Safe Disposal Offers Statesboro Residents Safe Alternative for Box Disposal

Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful and the City of Statesboro will again offer their seasonal holiday program “Operation Safe Disposal” for Statesboro residents this year. The program provides residents with a safe alternative to disposing of boxes for TVs, computer gaming systems, sound systems, and other valuables purchased or received during the Christmas holidays. By providing separate waste containers, residents do not have to place such items curbside for potential burglars to see in neighborhoods.

Waste containers will be available for residents to drop off gift boxes, packing materials, and wrapping paper from December 11 through December 29 at the following three locations:

• Statesboro Police Department (25 W Grady Street)

• Statesboro Fire Department Station #2 (1533 Fair Road)

• Statesboro Public Works (5 Braswell Street)

No Christmas trees, household garbage, yard waste or other such items should be placed in these containers. Residents looking to dispose of or recycle their Christmas trees can participate in Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful’s “Bring One for the Chipper” event starting December 27.

There will be two locations for citizens to recycle their Christmas trees. City of Statesboro Public Works will host a drop-off location for trees beginning December 27, 2022, through January 5, 2024, during normal operating hours. AgSouth Farm Credit will also host a drop-off and chipping event in its rear parking lot on Saturday, January 6 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Those who bring their Christmas tree to be recycled on January 6 at Ag South Farm Credit will be thanked with complimentary seeds for planting, seedlings, and free mulch upon request.
