Rep. Mesha Mainor Touts Georgia as Electric Vehicle Capital at United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai

State Representative Mesha Mainor this week traveled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP28, where she touted Georgia as the Electric Vehicle Capital of the nation and met with thought leaders, elected officials and business executives.

During her remarks as a participant on the “Stateside Climate Solutions,” Rep. Mainor highlighted Georgia’s work to attract electric vehicle manufacturers and suppliers as a bipartisan climate solution that could produce well-paying jobs and clean electric vehicles.

“The Peach State has quickly become the epicenter of the electric vehicle movement,” said Rep. Mainor. “In addition to having companies like Hyundai, Rivian and Kia build massive production facilities on our red clay, we are also the choice destination for battery manufacturers like SK Innovation.”

“Georgia is proof that positive that climate stewardship and good manufacturing jobs can go hand in hand,” added Rep. Mainor. “And by making electric vehicles more common place, we can lower the cost of production and ensure people of all economic backgrounds can afford clean vehicles.”

According to the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the electric mobility industry will be responsible for 35 projects across Georgia that generate $23 billion dollars of investment and create 28,000 new jobs.

“The United States and countries across the world should take a page out of our playbook,” said Rep. Mainor. “You can have clean water, clean air and clean energy without destroying jobs and opportunity.”

Representative Mesha Mainor represents the citizens of District 56, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves on the Education, Governmental Affairs, Regulated Industries and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
