Mrs. Bessie Mae Holmes-Morris

Mrs. Bessie Mae Holmes Morris, age 92, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at the St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mrs. Bessie M. Holmes Morris was born in Bulloch County Georgia, June 21, 1931, to the late Ester and Pearl Fredrick Homes.

At an early age she joined the Little Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

She received her formal education in the Bulloch County school system and was a graduate of the Statesboro High and Industrial School.

Mrs. Bessie M. Morris lived in Savannah Georgia for over seventy-five years and was a former employee of Asher’s where she worked as a seamstress. She later retired from J. C. Penny’s. After retirement she enjoyed working as a door greeter at Waffle House.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Voncille Morris Smith, a brother, Robert Walter Holmes, sisters, Elizabeth Davis, and Maggie Hendrix.

Those left to cherish her memories are, a daughter, Barnette Holmes Lewis, sisters, Jannie R. Smith, and Willie Pearl (Jackie) Clark, Mary Martin, and Joyce Shaheed; grandchildren, Jamal “Dissouri” Smith and Stephanie Smith Peacock, and a devoted grandson Roscoe Williams; seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing for Mrs. Morris will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.

A service of remembrance for Mrs. Bessie M. Holmes Morris will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc., with the Elder Cazzie Russell, officiating.

Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
