Mrs. Dorothy Marie Gill Timmons

Dorothy Marie Gill Timmons, 95 years old, formerly lived in Tucker, GA for over 50 years. She was born June 17, 1928 in Brandon, FL to Ben Forrest Gill and Polly Gertrude Young Gill.

Dot graduated from Florida State with a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Ec. for 4 years in Chattahoochee, FL and then became a mom and homemaker, teaching her girls to sew, cook, and garden.
She grew up Methodist but was a longtime member of Tucker Baptist Church, Tucker, GA, where she taught the 3-year-old class for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Elias Wade Timmons, her parents, and four siblings Fred B Gill, Vera Mae Taylor, Virginia Gill and Joe Gill. She’s survived by her 3 children Tim [Patti] Timmons, Jenny [Craig] Fowler and Cindy [Tommy] Strickland.

Dot was especially proud of her 9 grandchildren, Sean [Susan] Timmons, Jennifer [Frank] Parker, Michael [Betsy] Royal, Meg [Jay] Hasten, Jeremiah [Candace] Strickland, Simon [Montana] Strickland, Eli Strickland and fiancé Lauren Porter, Dustin [Lanie] Garcia, and Samantha [AJ] Massey. She would often play games with them and always allowed them to win. She currently has 14 great-grandchildren.

Dot loved the family’s 20 years of reunions in Fontana, NC, as well as the bi-yearly Gill reunions.
She had a passion for nature and gardening and passed this love along to her children and grandchildren. She was especially fond of trees, native plants, and wildflowers. While out walking, she couldn’t pass up trash and always had a litter bag [grocery bag] on hand, teaching her grandkids to always pick up the trash. Every family member and many friends who visited her beautiful yard in Tucker were invited to take home some “pass-a-long” plants. Her plant sharing has spread floral beauty far and wide.

Dorothy handled the finances for the family and was very frugal. Even with her love of flowers, she preferred that her husband not buy her flowers, believing they were a frivolous waste of money.
She has been living with her daughter Cindy in Statesboro, GA for the last 3 years, getting the best love and care possible.

Visitation for Mrs. Timmons will be on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 11:00 to 12:00 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 571 East Main Street, Statesboro, GA. Services will be held immediately following in the Trinity Presbyterian Sanctuary. A graveside service at a later date will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

In her memory, Dorothy would request everyone to plant a tree, a shrub, and always pick up some trash. Donations can also be made to the Georgia Southern University Botanic Garden; https://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/garden/
