David Emsley Wheeles Sr

Mr. David Emsley Wheeles, Sr., age 69, died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, under the care of Regency SouthernCare Hospice. He was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1954 and was a 1972 graduate of Savannah Christian School. Following his graduation, David entered the U.S. Army, serving at Fort Ord, California and was honorably discharged in July of 1974. David was an auto and diesel mechanic for 53 years, last working with Ken-Brick in Brooklet, Georgia. He had been a resident of Brooklet for the past 36 years and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Savannah.

In his spare time, David enjoyed going out in his boat fishing and shrimping. At home he enjoyed riding his red lawnmower around the property. He enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Carolyn Wheeles; a brother, Phillip Wheeles, and a grandson, Mason Palmour.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Marilyn Wheeles of Brooklet; five children, Alana Smith (Wayne) of Daytona, FL., Andrea Hill (Bryan) of Perry, Alison Palmour of Cumming, David Wheeles, Jr., (Elizabeth) of Brooklet and Stephen Wheeles (Lindsay) of Gainesville, FL; 17 grandchildren, John Daniel Smith, Jacob Smith(Carsen), Joseph Brannen Cadow, Davina Ethredge, Haley Hill, Anzleigh Padrick, Ashlynn Richards(Dorian), Malina Palmour, Hayden Wheeles, Emma Wheeles, Eli Wheeles, Brian Wheeles, Kaylynn Wheeles, Logan Madray, Chase Bryan, Calvin Bryan and Elizabeth Cobb; two brothers, Bert Wheeles (Sue) of Claxton and Timothy Wheeles(Brenda) of Brooklet; two great grandsons, Brooks Padrick and Lawson Smith and a third great grandchild, Regan Richards, due in September of this year. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive visitors on Monday April 1, 2024, from 10:00am until 11:00am at Believers Church of Statesboro, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am with Pastor Scott Moore officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to the David Wheeles Memorial Fund of Believers Church of Statesboro, P.O. Box 1240, Statesboro, Georgia 30459.
