Chris Alvarez, a 2019 graduate of Ogeechee Technical College’s Paramedicine Technology program, led members of local law enforcement in a specialized emergency medical training at OTC.
“It was wonderful to watch how the student had become the teacher,” said Chris Page, Paramedicine Technology program director. “The team was able to see, and then practice, some of the skills Chris had taught them so that they would be able to assist him in a medical emergency.”
In additional to serving in the Air National Guard as a C130 Loadmaster, Alvarez works as a full-time paramedic at Bulloch County EMS and is the SWAT medic for the Statesboro Police Department. The training, which took place in one of OTC’s labs, was to help the members of the SWAT team understand and see how Alvarez utilizes his skills for the team in case of a medical emergency during an operation.
“It was a really great opportunity to partner with Chris Page to help our SWAT team gain some additional stop the bleed training,” said Alvarez. “Our team is full of hands-on learners, and it was great to get in a lab and walk through some familiarization training so that if the need should ever arise, my team is in a position to help me give quick and proper medical care to someone in need.”
