Rain prevents bus travel on certain roads; Alternate bus transportation plan in effect

Updated 3:30 p.m., November 7. 2024

  • All dirt roads in Bulloch County are now closed to bus travel for Thursday and Friday
  • The alternate bus route & bus stop plan that was used during Tropical Storm Debby is now in effect for all dirt roads
  • Some paved roads may also be affected
  • Bus drivers will communicate with parents on November 7, before the afternoon bus routes, to relay this information to affected families
  • Please review the bus transportation tips listed below while the school district is under its alternate transportation plan

Bulloch County is currently experiencing extended heavy rain; however, schools will continue a normal schedule on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7 & 8, and the school district will activate its alternate bus transportation plan. Families are asked to familiarize themselves with the information below.

Based on ongoing collaboration with the Bulloch County Emergency Management Agency and Bulloch County Public Works, Bulloch County Schools has activated its alternate bus transportation plan for the remainder of the week. Be alert for any messages from your middle or high schools as to any changes to athletic schedules. In cases of weather events like this, we encourage parents and schools to be patient and flexible with alternate bus routes, absences, and tardies.

Alternate Bus Transportation Plan for Families

Families are asked to keep the following tips in mind while the alternate bus transportation plan is in place:

  • Everyone is encouraged to drive with caution
  • All dirt roads in Bulloch County are now closed to school bus traffic. Remember that some roads might be open for car traffic, but not for school buses.
  • Some paved roads may also not be passable for buses
  • Adhere to designated bus stops for everyone’s safety and efficiency.
  • Use the Transportation Help Desk for any questions or concerns about your child’s bus route.
  • Download the Edulog Parent Portal mobile application for real-time updates on your child’s bus information. Visit our Transportation Services webpage for a helpful flier to assist you.
  • Expect possible bus delays. You can use the Edulog Parent Portal mobile app to track updates on your child’s bus.
  • School Nutrition will provide breakfast to any students who arrive late due to a delayed bus.

For families with an alternate bus stop:

  • Parents are asked to bring their child to the stop and ensure children do not walk along roadways.
  • Please remain with your child until the bus arrives and be punctual for the afternoon pick-up at the alternate stop.
  • Children not picked up at their alternate stop will be returned to the school, and the school will contact a parent.
  • Expect possible bus delays. You can use the Edulog Parent Portal mobile app to track updates on your child’s bus.

We understand that using alternate bus stops is inconvenient and challenging, but we appreciate your patience and cooperation during this temporary adjustment. Thank you for your continued kindness and support for our bus drivers.
