Statesboro Man Arrested After Monday Afternoon Shooting Near Northside Drive

A Statesboro man is behind bars after an afternoon shooting near Northside Drive.

Statesboro Police Officers responded to Octane Food Mart in the 1400 block of Northside Drive East on Monday afternoon just before 4:00 p.m. The call was in response to a male who had entered the store suffering from a gunshot wound.

EMS arrived and transported the adult male victim to East Georgia Regional Medical Center and from there to Memorial Health in Savannah. The victim was able to communicate with detectives prior to his transport.

The shooting of the victim did not take place inside of the store or involve its staff. The incident was later determined to have occurred in a wooded area outside of the store.

Review of surveillance video from the store led detectives to identify a person and vehicle of interest. Using the Flock system, officers were able to locate and stop that vehicle approximately two hours later and detain the three occupants. Subsequent interviews and a search of the vehicle led detectives to charge James Deon Scott Jr (38, Success Court, Statesboro) with Aggravated Assault. He was transported to the Bulloch County Jail where he remains pending further judicial action.

Information may be provided to Senior Detective Dustin Cross at 912-764-9911.
