Speaker Jon Burns Releases Statement Reaffirming Support for IVF Protections

Today, Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) released a statement reaffirming his commitment to supporting legislation that codifies protections for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments during the upcoming 2025 Legislative Session:

“Millions of American families rely on medical intervention and treatment to start or grow their families, and here in Georgia—over 2,900 children were conceived using IVF in 2021,” said Speaker of the House Jon Burns. “In light of a recent ruling from our neighboring state’s Supreme Court, the Georgia House will take proactive measures to codify protections for this life-changing care, keeping the dream of parenthood alive for countless women and families.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 19 percent of women in the United States struggle with infertility. In-vitro fertilization has been proven to be a safe and effective way to assist those struggling to conceive and is additionally used to preserve fertility for patients with cancer and other medical conditions to provide greater chances for future family building.
