A suspected involved in an aggravated assault in Vidalia was apprehended in Statesboro on Tuesday.
The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office says investigators received information that a wanted suspect was reported to be at a local hotel in Bulloch County. the deputies began conducting interviews with hotel clerks and other tenants at the Patriot Inn located off Highway 301 S. and Interstate 16.
After a series of interviews and searching a handful of different hotel locations, deputies confirmed that the wanted suspect, 36-year-old Christopher Powell, was at the Days Inn on Fair Road in Statesboro.
Given the information law enforcement had to believe Powell may be armed and dangerous, the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team conducted the entry into the hotel room and apprehended Powell. He was taken into custody with incident and taken to the Bulloch County jail for Vidalia P.D. to coordinate transport.
At the time of his arrest, Powell had active arrests warrants for aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
24-year-old Cori Lynn Taylor, also of Vidalia, was arrested in relation to the incident in Vidalia as well. Her charges are pending.
Christopher Darrell McCoy was arrested at the same time and was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a firearm by a Convicted Felon.
In a statement, Sheriff Noel Brown commended the efforts of deputies, investigators, and members of the ERT for their professionalism and the working conversations with detectives from VPD. He also thanked the Statesboro Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension.
