There truly was no party like a Rome High party as RHS welcomed students and families for their annual Back to School Extravaganza on Monday night.
Hallways and common areas were bustling with energy as new students, returning students, and families toured the school, met teachers, planned class schedules, located their lockers, and worked out parking spaces for the fast approaching first day of school.
All of that bustling energy was heightened and hyped by the blast of beats booming in the common room where DJ D-low kept the vibe going all evening.
“We just want to celebrate, get that energy going,” Principal Dr. Eric Holland said, “but also work on building relationships, and being prepared for our kids on Thursday.”
Student ambassadors were on hand to lend help and guidance.
“We had 80 student ambassadors that showed up today,” Dr. Holland explained, “to help people navigate and answer questions. We couldn’t do it without our student ambassadors.”
Also set up in the common room was information on COVID guidelines, various clubs, such as Yearbook, athletics, and even fishing, as well as several college booths complete with representatives to speak with students about opportunities. Smoothie King was also on site, offering cold sweet treats.
All necessary spirit items could be purchased that evening as the College and Career Academy Spirit Store was open for business.
At 4:30 p.m. Dr. Holland led a “welcome back” meeting in the Performing Arts Center for parents and students. Then at 5:30 p.m. Assistant Principal, John Fricks, guided attendees through an informative presentation about the school’s Title I program.
