Local Rescue Dog Gives Back with Book Proceeds

Local celebrity and philanthropist Stanley Eugene Szilagyi donated the first round of proceeds from his published book this week in an effort to give back to dogs in need.

The critically-acclaimed author presented checks to representatives from Fixing the ‘Boro, Friends of Screven County Animals, and the Georgia Police K9 Foundation. The proceeds are a result of the success from his book, Joy is a Boomerang!, which is available on Amazon.

Stanley Eugene put down roots in Statesboro late last summer when he forced his way into the home and hearts of a family in the western end of Bulloch County. At the time, he was running the ditches of the region without a family or an identity. That changed when he ventured into the yard of two other labradors, both female, and refused to leave. Stanley Eugene immediately committed to being the world’s happiest dog with a personality that would capture people from all over.

He initially chronicled his daily life in journal entries posted on social media, detailing the transition from a drifter pup on the roam to a domesticated fella who planned to serve as Head of the Household. It wasn’t long after his diary entries turned regular that his fan club called on Stanley Eugene to author a book. He obliged, but promised to donate any earnings to organizations that support pups across the region and state.

Joy is a Boomerang! tells the story of the joy of spreading joy – detailing how the kindness we show to others is what comes back to us tenfold. In Joy is a Boomerang!, Stanley Eugene shares how you don’t have to know where you came from to know where you want to go and all you need to get through the tough times is a positive attitude, a contagious smile, and a zeal for spreading joy.

In January of 2021, Joy is a Boomerang was published for local distribution – which sold out almost immediately – before making its way to Amazon a month later. To date, Stanley Eugene’s book has shipped to more than 80 cities in 12 states.

Stanley Eugene hopes to make donations on a rolling basis as proceeds continue to trickle in. Whether or not another book is in his future is still to be determined, but in the meantime, Stanley Eugene plans to continue connecting with his fan base and spreading joy wherever he goes..

About Georgia Police K9 Foundation
The Georgia K9 Retirement Foundation was founded in 2016 by a group of K9 handlers in Statesboro, GA, who wanted to help provide veterinary assistance to retired k9s. Recognizing that a number of police departments lack the funding to support active duty k9s and can almost never support retired dogs, the organization sought to raise funds and provide resources to handlers across the state. In 2018, the mission expanded and the Georgia Police K9 Foundation was launched in an effort to assist active duty k9s as well.
