OTC Volunteers Serve 302 People At Local Soup Kitchen

On Saturday, April 17, the Student Leadership Council (SLC) of Ogeechee Technical College sponsored the Statesboro Soup Kitchen at the First United Methodist Church in Statesboro.

The participants arrived and began preparing food at 9:00 a.m. and served meals of turkey alfredo, green beans, garlic toast, and cookies to over 300 people.

There were 16 volunteers from Ogeechee Tech who represented various programs and departments including Business Management, the Business Office, Dental Assisting, NTHS, Radiologic Technology, Veterinary Technology, and the SLC.

“It was really wonderful to have such a large and diverse group of volunteers for this week’s soup kitchen,” said Beckie Snyder, Administrative Assistant for AVPSA. “Several departments and programs came out to help and it shows what a heart for service our students and staff have here at OTC.”

The Soup Kitchen is open from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. every Saturday for Service.

Ogeechee on the Go is the name of Ogeechee Technical College’s community service initiative. OTC students and employees routinely participate in projects designed to support worthwhile causes within the community.
