Two individuals are behind bars after deputies with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office spotted a suspicious vehicle at a tire store after hours.
The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that deputies encountered a suspicious vehicle at Cotton Tire inside the city limits of Statesboro in the early morning hours on August 21. During a routine patrol, Sergeant Jason Borne and Deputy Jeremy Hall observed the vehicle with its lights off and conducted an investigative stop of the car. Both were aware of a series of catalytic converter thefts in Bulloch County.
From the press release:
They felt there was possible criminal activity in progress due to the location, time, and actions of the occupants of the vehicle. K-9 Corporal Dustin Lanier and his
canine partner, Pike, arrived on the scene to assist. Pike alerted the Deputies to the
possible presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
During their investigation Deputies recovered multiple tools that were commonly used to cut catalytic converters and commit burglaries. They also seized an illegally possessed firearm as well as located a catalytic converter that appeared to have been removed from a vehicle.
Nicholas Blake Glover, 36, and Robert Allen Glover, 48, were both arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit a felony (theft by taking), possession of tools for commission of a crime, conspiracy to commit a felony (criminal damage 2nd degree)and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender. Nicholas Glover was also charged with giving false name to a law enforcement officer and false statements or writings to conceal facts.
Sheriff Brown commended Sgt. Borne and Deputy Hall on their attention to detail and willingness to take additional investigative steps, which most likely prevented
additional thefts of catalytic converters. Brown also said that the damage done to vehicles in these cases is often times much more costly than the catalytic converter itself.
