2 Bulloch Deputies Involved in Shooting at Statesboro GasPro

This is a press release from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office:

On June 18th at approximately 14:45hrs. the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a motor vehicle accident in the area of Highway 80E and Burkhalter. The vehicle involved left the scene and a description was transmitted to responding deputies.

After this initial call for an accident there were multiple reports that gunshots had been fired from a vehicle fitting the description from the hit and run incident.

The suspect vehicle pulled into the Gas Pro Travel Center on Highway 301 South. The offender then reportedly fired shots at a customer who was at the store purchasing fuel. Two Bulloch County Deputies located the offender, who had parked his vehicle at the gas pumps. As deputies attempted to approach him, he fired at one of the deputies. Both deputies returned fire striking the suspect.

Georgia State Troopers arrived on the scene immediately to assist the deputies. They begin providing first aid to the suspect who was transported to the EGRMC Emergency Room. No law enforcement officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.

Sheriff Brown stated that his deputies displayed courage and a great deal of professionalism in the way they handled this unfortunate situation. He stated how much he appreciated the quick response of the Georgia State Patrol who got there immediately to assist.

Other agencies responding to assist included the Statesboro Police Dept., Georgia Southern University P.D., Bulloch County EMS and Ga. D.O.T.

Sheriff Brown also expressed how thankful he was that no law enforcement officers or innocent bystanders were injured in this incident.

At this time the investigation has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information about this incident should contact either the G.B.I. or the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office.
