Emanuel Co. Man Arrested on Aggravated Sodomy Charges in Statesboro

The Statesboro Police Department has arrested an Emanuel County man in connection with a sexual assault.

SPD says detectives were notified of a possible sexual assault reported by a female victim on Georgia Avenue. Police say the incident involved an acquaintance of the alleged victim. The female was examined by staff at the Teal House Sexual Assault Center at which time forensic evidence was collected.

Additionally, investigation by detectives led to the identification of 22-year-old Justin Henry Riner of Swainsboro. He was arrested on one count of Aggravated Sodomy and transported to the Bulloch County Jail.

Under Georgia law, “a person commits the offense of aggravated sodomy when he or she commits sodomy with force and against the will of the other person or when he or she commits sodomy with a person who is less than ten years of age.”

He remains there, pending further judicial action.

A person convicted of the offense of aggravated sodomy shall be punished by imprisonment for life or by a split sentence that is a term of imprisonment for not less than 25 years and not exceeding life imprisonment, followed by probation for life.
