73-year-old Gary Lewis was arrested by investigators with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office on Monday for felony possession of drugs and a handful of firearms charges.

Among the charges:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (x2)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (x2)
  • Possession of Marijuana (misdemeanor)

According to the Bulloch County Jail log, Lewis was still behind bars Tuesday morning. He will await further adjudication from a judge in order to seek bond.

Lewis was sentenced to fifteen months in federal prison in 2016 for extortion. He was accused of offering to help a business in exchange for money that wanted to be able to sell alcohol through a drive-thru window. His tenure on the Statesboro City Council ended in December 2015.
