SFD on the Weekend Mobile Home Park Fire That Claimed Lives of 2 Children

The Statesboro Fire Department (SFD) responded to 12161 Hwy 301 South (Barn Mobile Home Park) lot #53 at 11:49 pm on November 6th, 2021 for a reported structure fire with possible victim entrapment.

Units from the Statesboro and Bulloch County Fire Departments arrived on scene to find a single family dwelling with heavy smoke and fire showing from the house.

An unidentified female notified firefighters that two (2) children were still inside the home and would likely be in a back bedroom of the structure. Firefighters entered the building to conduct a search for the juveniles as well as begin fire suppression operations.

Firefighters were able to quickly locate and remove the two victims from the house. While attempts were made by firefighters and EMS personnel to revive the victims, both were pronounced dead on-scene.

“Any fatality as a result of a fire is tragic but when children are involved it is especially heartbreaking. Despite our firefighters’ best efforts, the amount of fire and smoke present when units arrived on-scene made it unlikely anyone would be able to survive that extreme of an environment. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family of the two children” commented Statesboro Fire Chief Tim Grams.

The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
