The Statesboro Police Department is searching for a man they say shot his former girlfriend.
The Statesboro Police Department said Thursday that 41-year-old Akeino Dickerson was involved in an incident in Statesboro which resulted in a female being shot.
According to the agency, officers responded to the area of Bobby Donaldson Avenue at 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday evening in response to a call that a woman had been shot. Officers located the 24-year-old female victim and rendered aid until she could be transported by EMS to East Georgia Regional Medical Center. She was later flown to Savannah where she was treated and released.
Detectives responded and determined that the female had been shot by her former boyfriend, Akeino Dickerson (41, Bobby Donaldson Avenue, Statesboro).
A search warrant was served at Dickerson’s residence by SPD’s SWAT Team and what the agency says was ‘vital evidence’ was recovered by detectives in the subsequent search. Dickerson was not found at that location. He is currently wanted for Aggravated Assault.

Prior History
Court records indicate that Dickerson was convicted of Criminal Trespass (Family Violence) and Terroristic Threats in October 2023. He was sentenced to a term of probation with community service, a Battery Intervention Program, and was ordered to surrender carry permits for firearms. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim in the case.
In 2019, Dickerson was convicted of Battery (Family Violence) and two other charges (Cruelty to Children – 3rd degree and Criminal Trespass) were dismissed. He was sentenced to 12 months probation with 14 days to serve in jail, a $400 fine, and a family violence course. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim in the case, which was different from the 2023 case.
In 2009, Dickerson was convicted on felony drug charges and he has two Disorderly Conduct convictions and an Obstruction conviction from 2003.
At this time, it is unknown if the female shot on Wednesday was the victim in either of the previous cases.
