An increasing student population is driving up the need for classroom space, prompting the Board of Education to purchase five modular classrooms for two schools.
After considering a request from Brad Boykin, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, the Board voted Thursday evening to approve the buildings.
Two of the buildings will be installed at Southeast Bulloch Middle School and three will be installed at Langston Chapel Middle School. Each modular classroom building can hold two classrooms for a total of ten classrooms. Each will be designed with the same layout and design.
The school system received three bids ranging from $784,848 to $937,165. The low bidder was Modular Technologies at $784,848, however staff requested a 10% contingency totaling $78,784. The total amount requested for the buildings is $863,633.
