Board of Education Votes to Add 3 Years to Superintendent’s Contract

The Bulloch County Board of Education has renewed Superintendent Charles Wilson’s contract through 2026.

“I am not only honored to continue to serve this community and such a fine team of professionals as we have in Bulloch County Schools, but I am also very appreciative of our board’s willingness to be so decisive in setting the direction of this school system in the face of unprecedented challenges,” Wilson said.

After emerging from an executive session during its March 9 regular session, the Board voted (7-1) to approve a new three-year contract  after a motion by District 4 Member Donna Clifton and a second by District 2 Member Elizabeth Williams. Maurice Hill, the District 8 representative cast the dissenting vote.  The new contract is effective April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2026. It supersedes and terminates the superintendent’s previous contract which was signed in November 2020 and included an original two-year renewal from August 1, 2022 -July 31, 2024.

“We have been doing great work in our schools and have built a solid foundation upon which to propel the success of our students,” Wilson shared on Friday afternoon.  “I am very encouraged and excited.”

Wilson has served the school district for 27 years, 11 of those as superintendent. He was one of 33 applicants for the superintendent of schools job in 2012. He previously served as the district’s finance director and later its assistant superintendent of business and finance.

A certified public accountant, Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The Citadel and a master’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southern University. After being hired as a superintendent, Wilson also obtained a specialist’s degree in education from Georgia Southern.
