The City of Statesboro is accepting applications for appointments to its Youth Commission and Tree Board. The Youth Commission appointment is for a two-year term and the Tree Board appointment is for a three-year term. The Youth Commission and Tree Board both meet once a month. The deadline to apply to be considered for an appointment is March 17, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
The Statesboro Youth Commission was established in September 2018 and consists of nine members appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The commission has the authority to prepare studies, reports, strategies, education efforts and programs with the purpose of informing the governing body. The commission was created with the intent of fostering development through civic engagement, education, leadership, service learning opportunities, job training and empowerment. Each member of the commission shall work towards securing a future rooted in an evolving standard for local youth. The commission meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
The Statesboro Tree Board was established in January 1991 and consists of nine members appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The board is responsible for hearing requests for variances for special use permits in the enforcement of the City of Statesboro Tree Ordinance. The board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
