City of Statesboro is Looking for Planning, Business Commission Members

The City of Statesboro is currently accepting applications for appointments to its Planning Commission and Business Commission.

The deadline to apply to be considered for an appointment is Friday, December 13, 2024, at 5:00 pm.

Completed applications should be submitted to the office of the City Clerk in person at 50 East Main Street, Statesboro, or by email to leah.harden@statesboroga.gov.

About the Planning Commission: Established in 1977, the Statesboro Planning Commission consists of seven members, appointed by Statesboro’s Mayor and City Council. The commission is vested with the duties to hear and make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on matters regarding zoning ordinances, promote the planning of the City of Statesboro with the preparation of a Master Plan, prepare and recommend regulations for subdivisions, and administer those regulations, and prepare and recommend a plat for the official map of the city displaying the location of existing and proposed boundaries. The Planning Commission meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located in City Hall.

About the Business Commission: Formed in November 2022, the Statesboro Business Commission consists of nine local business owners appointed by Statesboro’s Mayor and City Council who serve staggered two-year terms. The purpose of the Statesboro Business Commission is to prepare studies and make recommendations to the City Council on policy matters and procedures that affect business opportunities and operations within the city. Interested applicants must be authorized representatives of an entity holding an occupational tax certificate with the City of Statesboro. The Business Commission meets once a month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located in City Hall. The next meeting of the commission is Monday, January 13.
