Judge Peed to Retire at End of His Term

The Honorable F. Gates Peed won’t seek another term as Superior Court Judge as he will be retiring at the end of his current term.

Peed is currently the Chief Superior Court Judge for the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit which encompasses Bulloch, Effingham, Jenkins, and Screven counties.

His four-year term expires on December 31, 2024. The nonpartisan position will appear on primary ballots in the May 21, 2024 election. The successor will take office in January 2025.

Peed has served for 24 years, making him the longest serving superior court judge in the Ogeechee Circuit.

Prior to serving as a superior court judge, Peed worked as Solicitor General and later State Court Judge in Bulloch County.

Chief judges are the longest serving judge in the judicial circuit. As such, upon Peed’s retirement, Judge Michael Muldrew will become Chief Judge of the circuit.
