Ray Davis Sworn in as Commissioner After Resignation of Deal

Ray Davis was sworn in as Bulloch County Commissioner Friday morning following the resignation of Curt Deal last week.

Deal submitted his resignation on October 18 with an effective date of October 21, 2024, two and a half months shy of the end of his term. He has served as County Commissioner in District 2A since 2016.

Ray Davis defeated Deal in the Republican primary election back in May and was slated to take office January 1, 2025. With the departure of Deal mid-term and without time or need for a special election, the vacancy fulfillment was left up to Superior Court Judge Gates Peed.

Under Georgia law, appointment can be of any individual, but traditionally it is the candidate selected by the will of the voters in the previous election that is appointed in instances such as this.

Davis was sworn in by Judge Lorna DeLoach in a private ceremony Friday morning.

Davis will assume his role immediately.
