Statesboro Council Moves Forward with Gate Access, License Plate Reader Requirements for Apartments

The Statesboro City Council voted Tuesday night to move forward with an ordinance to require gate access and license plate readers for some properties in the city limits.

Every complex with more than 50 units would be required to have either gated access OR a license plate tag reader at the entry point.

No one was present to speak in favor or against the initiative and there was no council discussion.

Since the ordinance only addresses apartment complexes, it will have no effect on the issue of heightened crime on Lanier Drive.
