Dollar Tree to Open in Former Fred’s Location

A new retail location of Dollar Tree is set to open in the old Fred’s location on Highway 80.

This location is on Highway 80 across from the Food World by Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. The 16,854 square-foot building will undergo substantial renovations so a grand opening date has not yet been set. Dollar Tree has opted for a competitive bid process, meaning local vendors and general contractors will have the opportunity to bid the project.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, in September 2019, Fred’s announced that it would be closing 300 of its remaining stores after 72 years in business. The store filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and liquidated its assets. The shuttering of the stores eliminated approximately 6,600 jobs across the country.

Dollar Tree stores are a known entity in Statesboro with two other stores already in operation and another in Metter.
