The former home to IHOP on Highway 80 in Statesboro was leveled this week, paving the way for the new business set to open there later this year.

The International House of Pancakes restaurant closed its doors December 31, 2020 in a move that, at the time, was said to be temporary. The closure followed an announcement months earlier by the parent company in which executives said they would close approximately 100 underperforming restaurants.

IHOP closed the dining room during COVID-19 in March of 2020 and re-opened in mid-May. It operated for the remainder of the year before shuttering for the temporary closure, but never re-opened its doors.

The site location sold nearly a year later in December 2021 for more than $2 million. W4 Properties Statesboro 2 LLC says it will open a Tidal Wave Car Wash at that location.
