The Georgia Southern Athletics Department and the Sun Belt Conference announced Monday the Eagles’ 2021 football schedule. It is a slate that features four teams that finished in the Top 26 of last year’s final AP Poll, six home Saturday games, at least one nationally televised game and seven contests against teams that were selected for a bowl game last year.
The Eagles will open the 2021 season at home, hosting Gardner-Webb on Sept. 4, before heading to Florida Atlantic on Sept. 11. They then head to Fayetteville to take on Arkansas of the SEC a week later on Sept. 18. The final non-conference game comes in November as the Eagles host BYU on Nov. 20.
Georgia Southern opens up Sun Belt play at the end of September on Sept. 25 at home against Louisiana. October features a pair of home conference games, first against Arkansas State on Oct. 2 and then against Georgia State on Oct. 30. The Eagles will play at Troy on Oct. 9 and then return to Alabama five days later to play at South Alabama on Thursday, Oct. 14 in a nationally televised contest against the Jags.
The final month of the regular season will open at home against Coastal Carolina on Nov. 6, followed by a trip to San Marcos, Texas, to take on Texas State on Nov. 13. After the home tilt against BYU, the regular season concludes on Nov. 27 in Boone, North Carolina, against App State.
The Eagles are coming off a season that saw them go 8-5, capped by a victory over Louisiana Tech in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Georgia Southern was the only team in the country to play all 12 regular season games and a bowl game. The Eagles are scheduled to return eight starters on both offense and defense and welcome a strong recruiting class to campus.
The conference is once again split into two, five-team divisions and have a championship game on Dec. 4 at the higher-ranked team’s home stadium. Georgia Southern is grouped in the East Division with App State, Coastal Carolina, Troy, Georgia Southern and Georgia State.
