Juvenile Arrested for Sexual Battery at William James Middle School

A juvenile has been arrested for a Sexual Battery incident at William James Middle School, according to an incident report.

The incident occurred on August 27, 2024, according to an Initial Incident Report on file with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office and dated September 9. The report states that on the day after the alleged incident, Deputy Julian Carter-Brown was “made aware of an incident that occurred on 8/27/2024 at William James Middle School.”

The incident location is listed as 18809 US 80, Statesboro, the address of William James Middle School, and the incident date is listed as “August 27, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. until August 29, 2024 at 11:40 a.m.” The incident type listed is ‘Sexual Battery – Misdemeanor.’

In Georgia, misdemeanor Sexual Battery is defined as intentionally making physical contact with the intimate parts of the body of another person without the consent of that person. State law defines “intimate parts” as the primary genital area, anus, groin, inner thighs, or buttocks of a male or female and the breasts of a female. While the offense is a misdemeanor, it is considered a misdemeanor of high and aggravated nature.

The report also states that the alleged victim was not a student and that the arrested individual was a juvenile. The box for ‘stranger to stranger’ incident type was marked ‘NO.’

Carter-Brown’s report does not list a complainant name, a victim name, or a witness name, but has contact information redacted for all three. The redaction of home addresses and phone numbers is standard as a matter of law, but it is unclear why the complainant name, victim name, or witness name boxes were left blank entirely. Traditionally, if the individuals are juveniles, the boxes are completed but the information is blacked out and redacted.

The case was cleared by arrest on September 10, approved by SRO James Revell, and turned over to the District Attorney’s Office, which handles juvenile cases in the Ogeechee Circuit.
