Gwendoline Capper Rogers
February 23, 1932 ~ February 8, 2021 (age 88)
Gwendoline Capper Rogers, age 88, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021, surrounded by her family at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, GA. Gwen was born on February, 23rd, 1932 in Norbiton, England, and grew up in Ixworth, England. She met her husband, Martin Rogers, in 1952 in Bury Saint Edmunds, while he was stationed at RAF Lakenheath during the Korean War.
Gwen had a sweet and humble spirit that was a blessing to all she encountered. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was adored by her family. Gwen enjoyed cooking some of her British dishes for her children and grandchildren such as Yorkshire pudding and beef stew, as well as her “signature dishes”, roast & potatoes, and macaroni & cheese. She was a talented artist who won numerous blue ribbons at the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair, and used her gift to bless others with paintings on special occasions. She was a member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church, the Statesboro Art Club, and the Top Ten Supper Club. The canvas of Gwen’s life is filled with love, laughter, memories, and beauty that will remain etched on the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Proverbs 31:27-28, “She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her.”
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Martin Rogers; her parents, Albert and Lydia Capper; siblings Peter Capper, Rita Turner, and Michael Capper; and great-grandchildren Ella Faith Shuford, Lillian Susanna Kaiser, and Graham Thomas Kaiser. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Warren Groover of Statesboro; three sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Glenda Rogers, Tony and Michelle Rogers of Statesboro, and Brian and Ann Rogers of Swainsboro. Also surviving, are her beloved sister, Gillian Eastaugh, of Bungay, England; her grandchildren Sommer (Joseph) Shuford, Kayla (Billy) Anderson, Matthew (Breanna) Groover, Kelly (Lamar) Nelms, Kimberly (Josh) Kaiser, Brent Rogers, Kyle Rogers, Cason Rogers, Dustin Rogers, Evan Rogers, and Faith Ann Rogers; thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their most sincere appreciation to Gwen’s longtime, devoted caregiver and friend, Ellen Lanier, for her wonderful, loving care over the past year.

Mr. Jesse Hoyt Daughtry
November 9, 1938 – February 10, 2021
Portal, GA
Mr. Jesse Hoyt Daughtry, age 82, died on Wednesday February 10, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. The lifelong resident of Portal, GA was a graduate of Portal High School and received a degree in business from Draughon’s Business College in Savannah. Mr. Hoyt served in the Army National Guard. He was the owner and operator of Keys Restaurant in Statesboro for 10 years and owned and operated Portal IGA for over 10 years.
Mr. Hoyt was a member and Deacon of Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He was a member of the Ogeechee Lodge #213 F&AM Bulloch County, the Statesboro Shrine Club and the American Legion Post 90. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, cooking and riding his golf cart on his property. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Bernice Daughtry and a sister Betty Daughtry.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Ruth Lanier Daughtry of Statesboro; a daughter Joy Daughtry of Daisy, GA and a son Jay Daughtry of Portal; two granddaughters Ansley Daughtry and Jessie Daughtry of Statesboro; a sister and brother-in-law JoAnn and Lamar Vickery of Portal; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care provided by Regency SouthernCare Home Health.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder Keith Hamilton and Elder Scott Riner officiating.
Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Joey Lanier, Chris Vickery, Skeebo Moore, Wayne Williams, Larry Prosser, Lannie Lanier and Rocky Bradley.

Mrs. Alecia Ann Waters Evans
Mrs. Alecia Ann Waters Evans, 72 of Sylvania, passed Late Tuesday evening, February 9, 2021 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
The Screven County native was born to the late Tom and Betty Bazemore Waters. She graduated from Screven County High School, Class of 1966 and attended Abraham Baldwin 
Agricultural College afterwards. She was employed for 21 years as a deputy with the Screven County Sheriff’s Department and retired from the State of Georgia, she served DFACS locations in Statesboro and Sylvania. She enjoyed her involvement with her children’s sports as they were youths, often serving as team mom, chaperon, transporter, and many other capacities. her hobbies included playing canasta, sewing, knitting, cooking, and time spent with her sisters, children, and grandchildren. She also had a great love of history and was a dedicated genealogist, and was proud to call herself a ninth generation Screven Countian. She was a faithful and active member of the North Newington Baptist Church, a member of the Brier Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Georgia Descendants of the Mayflower, Daughters of the American Colonists, and in her younger days, the Junior Woman’s Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Fonda Elaine Waters, husband, John Flannery Evans, stepson, Russell Evans, and two brothers-in-law, Frank Rutherford and Randall Bashlor.
She is survived by her children, Lori Cook of Hixson, TN, and Carrie and Cam Cannon of Los Angeles, CA, sisters, Vonnie Rutherford of Statesboro and Maria Bashlor of Sylvania, GA; nieces and nephew, Michelle Rahn White, Kenneth Rutherford, and Ginger Rahn; and several great- nieces and nephews, and her step-children; Chuck and Kay Evans of Guyton, Mickey and Debbie Evans and Ted and Lynn Evans, all of Sylvania; grandchildren, Ashleigh Cook, Allison Cook, Patrick Cannon, and Alecia Cannon.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 2:00pm in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Slade Speir officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brier Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mr. Gerald Edwin Manack
Jerry Manack of Sylvania, Georgia passed away February 11, 2021. He was 89 years old. He was surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born in Sylvania, Georgia and lived there throughout his life. He was married to Kay Daughtry Manack, who preceded him in death in 2001. He owned and operated a timber business throughout his career and retired on his tree farm in Screven County. Jerry was proud of his Italian heritage (his father’s original surname was “Magnacca”), as was reflected in his high-spiritedness and passion for life. His love of the outdoors and the beauty of nature were prevalent throughout his life, and he was a skilled hunter. He especially enjoyed hunting with his children, and with his best friend Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr. He and Dr. Pamplin hunted all over the world, including an African safari in the 1960’s. Regarding their friendship, Dr. Pamplin shared these words:
“As Jerry’s best friend, I am proud, honored, and thankful to have shared many grand adventures from hunting to cruising timber and logging. From his wealth of practical expertise, he taught me how to endure hardships and be successful. Over the years I learned that if you followed Jerry’s advice and counsel your efforts would work to a beneficial end.
But aside from being a mentor, I knew I was associated with an honorable gentleman. Being a gentleman like Jerry causes these words to come to mind.
Even from childhood, I knew to respect and revere anyone whose life described characteristics of the “old school.” Such a person exhibited integrity, worked hard, loved his family and country, had a strong faith, and venerated the reputation of a gentleman.
Jerry Manack was a man from the “old school”, illustrating a pronounced significance in his conduct and clear proof that one human life can make a difference. While we await the day when we will be united with Jerry in God’s heavenly kingdom, the miracle of Jerry’s life will remain with all of us.”
In addition to his beloved wife Kay, he is preceded in death by his father Massmian J. Manack, his mother Elizabeth Morrison Manack Pippins, and one sister, Celeste Manack Waters.
Jerry is survived by his three children – a daughter, Mona Lisa Manack Renick (Clay); and two sons, Max Gerald Manack (Susan), and Todd Pamplin Manack (Ashley); three grandchildren – Sam Renick (Rachel), John Manack (Miranda), and Madeline Manack Ward (Dylan); step grandson Connor Calhoun, and two great-grandsons – Alexander and Oliver Renick; as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family memorial service to celebrate the life of Jerry Manack.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and hospice nurses who assisted Jerry and enabled him to remain at his home on Beaverdam Creek, the spot he and Kay so dearly loved.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to His Grace Church of Sylvania or Ogeechee Area Hospice of Statesboro, Georgia.

Mr. Wyman M. Hendrix
May 25, 1936 – February 12, 2021
Mr. Wyman M. Hendrix, 84, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Ogeechee
Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. Wyman was born May 25, 1936 on the Hendrix Family farm to Leonard Lee (Son) and Lillie Mae Smith Hendrix. He was a 1954 graduate of Statesboro High School. Wyman was employed by Brooks Instrument for 42 years. He lived and farmed in the Middleground Community. Wyman was a faithful deacon and member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Roberta Neal and Willa Lee Waters, and two brothers J.L. Hendrix and Earl Hendrix. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law Don Ray Newton.
Mr. Hendrix is survived by his wife of 63 years, Delois Jones Hendrix. He is also survived by his children, Kathy Newton of Statesboro, GA and Kasey Hendrix of Hawkinsville, GA; four grandsons-John Douglas Newton, Benjamin Newton, Brooks Hendrix and Joshua Hendrix.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 14, 2021, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Scott officiating. The body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Shelton Waters, Dennis Waters, James Hendrix, Lavan Hendrix, Johnny Neal and Travis Fordham.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, Talmadge Jones and Frank Hodges.
