Mr. Robert L. Brown
Mr. Robert L. Brown, age 74, passed into rest, Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center. He was born in Yamesse, South Carolina to the late Gideon and Elise Richardson Brown, where he received his early childhood education.
At a young age, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he continued his education
and became a truck driver at age sixteen.
Mr. Brown was employed with Matlack, Inc. and Chemical Leaman Tank Lines for many years until his retirement in 2000. He resided in the Statesboro area since 1992.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Lilian Newkirt Brown, Statesboro, GA; one son, and daughter-in-law, Anthony Lamar and Sandra Brown, Atlanta, GA, five brothers, John (Janice) Brown, Rafe Brown, Roy (Sharon) Brown, all of Miami, FL, Ronnie (Anita) Brown, Greensboro, NC and Elijah (Sheryl) Brown, Philadelphia, PA; a sister, Danielle Brown, Miami, FL, 5 grandchildren,2 great grandchildren, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, a host of other relatives and friends.
A walk through viewing for Mr. Brown will be held 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, March 12, 2021 at Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
The funeral service for Mr. Brown will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’ s Mortuary, Inc. with Pastor Steve Carr, officiating. Burial will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing will be enforced at the graveside services. We ask that you adhere to all CDC guidelines.

Mr. Prett Menefield
With sadness and compassion, Craig R. Tremble Funeral Homes, Inc, Statesboro Chapel, along with the Prett Family of Statesboro, Ga., announce the passing of Mr. Prett Menefield.
Mr. Prett Menefield, age 63, of Statesboro, GA, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday evening, March 9, 2021. He was a Bulloch County native and was a member of the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.
He was employed as a painter until his health failed.
He is survived by; his daughters, Lakeshia Rich, Taneka Rich, and Precious Rich all of Statesboro, Ga.; his sister, Roejeana Frink of Hampton, Va..; his brother, Joe Lewis Frink of Augusta, Ga. And a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Jerry Mack Beasley
Mr. Jerry Mack Beasley, 73, passed away at his home in the company of his family, on Tuesday morning, March 9, 2021.
For forty-two years he worked in carpet manufacturing; first with Badische, and eventually retiring from Sylvania Yarn Systems. He was a member of the Marine Rescue Squadron, the Screven County Shrine Club, and the Spring Lake Hunting Club. He loved caring for and tending to his garden and going fishing, especially with his grandchildren and great-grands. His family always made sure to drop in when he was frying chicken.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Lester and Annie Mae Mock Beasley, brother, Bobby Beasley and sister, Bernice Parker.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Peggy Ann Beasley, his children; Rhonda and Angel Castro, Jerry “Butch” and Jennifer Beasley, all of Sylvania, GA, Susie and Jeffery Marsh of Guyton, GA, Teresa and Scott Wells of Sylvania, GA, Alan Thompson and special friend, Keisha, of Newington, GA, and Eddie Thompson of Bluffton, SC, his siblings; Billie Jean and Mel Gordon of Springfield, GA, James E. “Jim” and Donna Beasley of Sylvania, GA, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved pet, Savannah.

Ms. Roxella Smith
Roxella “Rosie” Smith was born on May 1, 1941, in Leefield, Georgia, to Joe Brown and Effie Mae Smith. She received her education through the Bulloch County Public schools
At an early age, she joined Jerusalem A.M.E church where she served on the Stewardess Board and was a member of the Willing Workers Club. Rosie worked for many years as a nanny and homemaker, she enjoyed traveling, working in puzzle books, baking, cooking for her family and talking on the phone to family and friends.
Rosie was truly one of a kind, she loved and cared for everyone, especially her family. Rosie made her heavenly transition on March 10, 2021 under the care of Haven Hospice in Orange Park, Florida, surrounded by her loving family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Rosie leaves her memories be to cherished by: her Loving Daughter & Caretaker, Janis Smith; Granddaughter, Brittany Smith; Grandson, Jartavis Smith; Great-Granddaughter, Emare White; of Middleburg, Florida, 2 Sisters-in-law, Mae Liza Smith of Brooklet, GA and Glennis Smith of Statesboro, GA. 2 Goddaughters, Shirley Page and Cassie Odum: Godson, Billy Sandifer; and a host of loving family and friends.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the Jerusalem A.M. E. Church with the Rev. Frankie L. Owens, officiating.

Mr. Richard Lewis Akins
Richard Lewis Akins, age 59, passed away on March 10th, 2021 at his home surrounded by the family he loved and who dearly loved him. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on May 31, 1961 to Clinton Lewis and Linda Dianne Edwards Akins.
Richard graduated from Hancock Day School in Savannah, Georgia and would go on to become a Journeyman Electrician, working for 508 Local Union for many years. When he was not working and had some spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. But, in the fall on Saturday afternoons, you could find him cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs–he was a life-long dedicated fan.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Rachael Ann Raynor (Philip) and Mara Elizabeth Akins; his grandsons, Peyton Wade Raynor and Preston Grant Raynor; a brother, Ray Akins (Kristina); and a nephew, Johnathan Akins.
A Celebration of Life with immediate family and close friends is planned for a later date.
Mrs. Sandra “Sandy” Kay Futch Blake
Sandra “Sandy” Kay Futch Blake, age 63, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. Sandy was the daughter of the late C. L. Futch and Carrie Todd Woods. She lived in the Nevils community most of her life where she enjoyed working for John B. Anderson Peanut Company every peanut season.
Always greeting you with a smile, Sandy would do anything for anybody. She was one of a kind and if you ever met her, she considered you a friend. Nothing made her happier than being able to spend time with her family and grandbabies, whom she adored. When she wasn’t at home enjoying the farm life, you could find her at the beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Kenneth Woods, a son, Josh Lee, and a sister, Harriett Tapley.
Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Steve Blake; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Shawn Lee, and Jarrod and Paige Lee of Nevils; four grandchildren, Brooke Lee, C.J. Lee, Jobe Lee, and Raegan Lee; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sue and Derell Anderson of Nevils and Elizabeth Brinson of Savannah; one brother, Lee Futch of Savannah; her step-mother, Peggy Futch of Nevils; a step-sister, Cheryll Pritcher of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro followed by a graveside service and burial at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Mike Newman officiating and Reverend Mitch Lynn assisting.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Canady, Hunter Canady, Austin Canady, Randy Morris, Derrick Futch, and Shane Howard. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Darlene Wilkes Barnard, Sheri Haire, Kayla Canady, and Casey Durden.

Mr. Michael Brown
Mr. Michael Brown, age 67, died on Thursday, March 11th, 2021 at Landmark Hospital in Savannah, GA. Michael was born in Columbus, GA on July 11th, 1953 to Mr. Clyde Brown and Mrs. Wilma Davis Brown. He grew up in Statesboro and graduated from Marvin Pittman. After high school Michael served in the United States Army and later in the National Guard for several years. He worked for Cooper Wiss for many years as a tool and die specialist and earned a degree from MIT while working. Most recently, he retired as a supervisor in the tool room at Daniel Defense. Michael loved the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. He was a very loving husband, father and Poppy. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and also his son, Michael Scott Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Sonia Oglesby Brown, his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Eric Howard, his daughter, Kimberly Brown, his grandchildren, Kassidy Smith and Scott Mika, and his sister, Kathy Brown.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. The funeral will follow visitation at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor John Love officiating.
Interment will be at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hershel Benjamin “H.B.” Lanier
Mr. Hershel Benjamin Lanier (H.B.), age 94 of Statesboro, passed away peacefully on March 13 at Ogeechee Area Hospice. H.B. was preceded in death by his parents, Aden and Eliza Lanier; two brothers, Alvin Lanier and Inman Lanier; and two sisters, Betty Lanier and Elizabeth Aspinwall.
Survivors include his wife Doris of 70 years; one daughter, Jenny Shuman (Monty) of Dublin, Georgia; two sons, Dale Lanier (Janet) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Don Lanier (Lisa) of Statesboro; five grandchildren, Jeff Shuman (Sara), Rod Shuman (Lindsay), Kaylee Lanier Coleman (Josh), Ashlee Lanier, Chad Lanier; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Ambrose; and four nieces and two nephews.
Mr. Lanier grew up in Nevils, Georgia. At age 18, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served during World War II. Upon returning home in 1947, he farmed until 1959 when he became a business owner. That business, United Furniture and Appliance Company, is still operational today by his son, Don. He also owned numerous rental properties and because of that he met many students over the years.
Mr. Lanier always loved to work and his work ethic was to be admired. On the few occasions when he wasn’t working, H.B. liked to fish for crappie and tell others how to catch the big ones. He loved digging with his tractors and plows. He also enjoyed playing practical jokes on customers and family members.
He was a member of Pittman Park United Methodist Church.
The family would like to acknowledge the special care given to H.B. by Shelby Jean Pierce, Pearl Johnson, Alfreada Roberson, Cynthia Clay, and the caring staff at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Also, special thanks to dedicated employee, Debra Bragg Barrs.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Shuman, Rod Shuman, Chad Lanier, Harry Dyches, Chris Client, Rusty Mallard, Ricky Nevil, and John Martin.
Visitation will be Monday, March 15, 1-2:30 pm at Deal Funeral Directors in Statesboro. Graveside services will be held at 3 pm at Bulloch Memorial Gardens with Elder Randy Waters officiating.
