Mr. Dannie Lee Stewart Sr.

Mr. Dannie Lee Stewart, Sr., 90, of Newington, GA, passed away on April 20, 2024 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Stewart was born in the Kildare community to the late James and Rozzie Stewart in 1934. He served his country in the United States Army and worked for the telephone company before beginning farming. He farmed the majority of his life, a true man of the soil, growing crops and raising animals.

He loved hunting, fishing, cuttin’ the fool, and cracking jokes. He especially enjoyed coon hunting and competition trials, with his favorite dog Jim. He was a big sports fan, rooting for the Braves, Bulldogs, and Falcons. His love of sports led him to coach and umpire Little League sports, and he had coached the Flames women’s softball team. Even during his time at the hospital, he never met a stranger, and would gladly do a favor for anyone. He was a member of North Newington Baptist Church. He was a well loved person with many friends, but to him his family came first. He especially enjoyed the time he could spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his son, Dannie Lee Stewart, Jr., his parents, and his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marie Stewart, his children, Lisa Marie (H. Evans, Jr.) Stembridge of Columbus, NC, Christopher Derek (Leighanne) Stewart of Savannah, and Jeffrey Stewart of Newington, his grandchildren, Ashley Nicole S. (Will) Price, Erica Marie S. (Seth) Adams, Courtney Perkins, Lumi Osbourne Scott Stewart, Jennifer Carter, Krystal Stewart, Jeffrey Stewart, Jr., and Joshua Allen Gordy, and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 2:00pm at the North Newington Baptist Church with Rev. Slade Speir officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William Scott, Jerry Scott, Gill Stewart, Dave Burns, Wilson Burns, and Will Price.
Honorary pallbearers will be Boykin Stuart, Mary Peel, Thomas Pitts, T.W. Evans, Johnny Hodges, Bernie Scott, Robert Fruitticher, Randall Pryor, Joe Burns, John Burns, Lynn and Ted Evans, J.C. Marsh, and Charles Lee.
