Mr. Hugh Garris Hotchkiss

Mr. Hugh Garris Hotchkiss, age 86, died on Wednesday, February 14th 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

Mr. Hotchkiss was born January 30th 1938 in Statesboro to the late Lonnie Hotchkiss and Annie Bell Alderman. He was raised on the family farm and attended Statesboro High School, graduating in 1957. Mr. Hotchkiss worked as a farmer his whole life but also worked at Cooper-Wiss and Georgia Southern University. On the family farm he grew crops, raised hogs and cattle, but was a wall known pecan farmer over the last few decades. He also enjoyed woodworking, a hobby he took up in his early 80’s, and fishing. Mr. Hotchkiss was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his son, Hugh Hotchkiss, his brothers, Alvis, Hazel, Herbert, Ed, and Jack, and his sister, Euldine.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Deal Hotchkiss, his daughter and son-in law, Susan and Marty Anderson, his son and daughter-in-law, Charles Randall and Lara Hotchkiss, his grandchildren, Jessica (Garrett) McKinney, Matthew (Hailey) Anderson, Garrison Hotchkiss, Abbie Hotchkiss, and Mallory Hotchkiss, his great-grandchildren, Emma McKinney, Addison McKinney, Jack Anderson, and Wells Anderson, his daughter-in-law, Sheila Hotchkiss, her daughter, Casey and her grandchildren, Kylie and Jada, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Friday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Dr. John Waters officiating.

Interment will follow at Alderman Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Nursing Ministry at First Baptist Church Statesboro, 108 N. Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.
