Statesboro, GA John Monroe Chapman, father and grandfather (lovingly known as “Pop Pop”), peacefully departed this world from his home on January 4, 2024, at the age of 56. Johnny was born on August 3, 1967 to the late Edgar Chapman and Yvonne Dixon in Savannah. He proudly graduated from Savannah High School in 1985. For nearly three decades, Johnny was an integral part of the Derst/Flowers Baking Company family, earning the affectionate title of the “Breadman.” He then worked as a maintenance man at The SACK Company for 4-5 years. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Chapman and Yvonne Dixon, and his half-sister Holly Miller. He is survived by his siblings Sammy Powers, George Powers, and Barbara Powers Dickerson. Johnny’s legacy lives on through his children: Kendall Chapman Brown, Mason Chapman, and Blair Chapman Joyner, who is married to Nick Joyner, and his grandchildren: Brenley “Monroe” Brown, Everleigh Lynn Joyner, and Livie Blair Joyner. Johnny shared 31 years of his life with his former wife, Brenda Harvey Chapman. Johnny’s passion for the outdoors was a defining aspect of his life. Whether casting a line, going on camping trips, or skillfully repairing anything broken, he found joy in the simplicity of life. He enjoyed spending time with his children, and the memories created together are treasures that will endure through generations. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. A memorial service to honor and remember John Monroe Chapman will be held at a later date.
