Marion Thomas Griffin, 79 of Sylvania passed at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Marion was born in Savannah, GA to Vance Attys and Mattie Jeffers Griffin and was raised in Hiltonia. He was a lifelong member of the Hurst Baptist Church and graduated from Screven County High School. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard. After basic training he returned home and wed the love of his life in 1964. He would serve his country for six years while learning the family trade of well drilling from his father. In time, he began his own drilling practice he operated for many years. He also was employed with Plant Vogtle and retired from the State of Georgia’s Forestry Department. He enjoyed raising treeing feist, hunting, fishing, but most of all; the mission trips to Canada with his church family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Donna Lee Griffin of Sylvania; two daughters and sons in law, Penny and Bobby Reddick of Pine Mountain, GA and Cyndee and Mike Jones of Milledgeville, GA; grandchildren, Robert Zachary and Christian Reddick of Statesboro, Griffin Reddick of Valdosta, Mallory and Brayden Cheek of Covington; step-grandchildren, Megan and Will Dicks of Milwaukee, WI and Lauren Jones of Rome, GA; special family friends, Madelyn Brown, and Harold Lee; and his faithful companion, Scooter. Graveside services will be held at the Hurst Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 11:00am with Bobby Reddick and Mike Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Pallbearers will be Olin Boyd, Carl Bragg, Mac Chivers, Owen Ferguson, Tommy Griffin, Joe Landrum, Bob Lienhard, Harold Lee, Steven Lee, William Moats, Harold Moats, Michael Shipes, Tommy Ward, James Watson, Lamar Zipperer, Jimmy Wiggins, and Charles Martin.
