Mrs. DeWeese Crews Grooms

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of DeWeese Crews Grooms, a cherished widow, sister, aunt, and friend. DeWeese passed away peacefully at Southern Manor on March 31, 2024 at the age of 88.

DeWeese was born on June 4. 1935 in Screven County, to the late Dewey D. and Mary Jane (Janie) Scott Crews. After graduating from Screven County High School in 1953 she attended Jones Business School in Jacksonville, Florida. Jacksonville is where she met her future husband, Benjamin (Bob) Grooms and where she also worked for many years at Prudential Life Insurance Company.

After retirement DeWeese and Bob moved to Sylvania. They joined First Baptist Church and spent many years working in and supporting the church. DeWeese was known for making her delicious and beautifully decorated pound cakes. She made sure family members and church friends had one on their birthday each year.

DeWeese is survived by her sister, Jeanette Boykin and her brothers Alton Crews, David and Susan Crews, and Eddie and Amanda Crews. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a special church friend, Doris Jolly. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Hyland Black, and sister-in-law, Judy Crews.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Reddick, Bill Black, Randy Crews, James Crews, Justin Crews, Gary Crews, Christopher Metheny, Attison Lee, Allen McBride and Richard Whatley.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd at 3:00 at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 4:00. Burial will be at Screven County Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Sylvania or Greenhill Baptist Church.
