Mrs. Helen Goff Lane

Mrs. Helen Goff Lane, 99, of Sylvania, GA passed Sunday evening, January 21, 2024 at the Optim Medical Center Screven. Helen was born on March 23, 1924 to Jesse and Christine McAllister Goff in the Long Pond Community of Montgomery County, GA. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Georgia Teacher’s College, presently Georgia Southern University, where she obtained a degree in Education. Her first appointment was in Screven County. There she met the love of her life, David Lane, and would begin a multi decade career educating the youth of Screven in first and third grades. She was revered as an exceptional and beloved teacher. Never one to remain idle and after retirement, she assisted Carol Ayers in the Early Childhood Education Program at the Screven County High School for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania and was also a member of the Virginia Bible Study Class, Retired Teachers Association. She took great care in maintenance of her property herself, from her lawn to her flower beds. She will be remembered for her great recall and supporting as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their endeavors. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David Patrick Lane, Sr, daughter and son-in-law, Krista Marie L. and Don G. Aaron, Sr., brothers, Hershel Goff and Julian Goff, and two sisters, Evelyn Goff Lawrence and Drucilla Goff Sanders, and brother-in-law, Clyde Everett Lane. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David Patrick, Jr. “Pat” and Dr. Marian F. Lane of Sylvania, GA; grandchildren, Don G., Jr. and Lisa T. Aaron, Charlie and Leigh Aaron, Mary Helen and Kevin Harrison, Emily and Dennis Dove, all of Statesboro, Helen V. Lane of Dallas and David Patrick III and Nicole Lane of Statesboro; great-grandchildren, Don G. Aaron III and Mattie Wynn Aaron, William Thompson Aaron and Bennett McPherson Aaron, Lane Aaron, Sydney Kate Aaron, Madeline Aaron, Davis Harrison, Brynn Harrison, Riley Dove, Grayson Dove, and Brady David Lane. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church of Sylvania with Rev. Dr. Charlie Cooper and Rev. Clint Sheppard officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Don. G. Aaron, Jr., Charlie Aaron, David Lane III, Kevin Harrison, and Dennis Dove.
