Mrs. Marguerite Smith “Rete” Pye

Mrs. Marguerite Smith “Rete” Pye, 94, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 4, 2023 surrounded by her family and under care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born July 11, 1929, to the late Virgie Koon and Emory Smith. She was married to OJ Pye, and she worked as a secretary for many years. Marguerite loved her family, attending church, and her friends. She was an avid reader and crocheter and was known to sing at weddings and funerals. She was a lifelong member of Double Heads Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, OJ Pye, her parents, a son, Michael Emory Pye, and her brother Marvin Smith. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Jeff and Donna Pye, of Sylvania; grandchildren, Amanda (Chip) Bazemore, J (Marcy) Pye, Allison Pye, and Timothy (Bre) Pye; great-grandchildren, Tanner Forehand, Meredith Pye, Jefferson Pye, Jax Pye, Brady Pye, Lexi (Justin) Hodges, Creek and Remmy Bazemore; brother, Edwin Smith; and a sister, Nell Mock. Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 8, 2023 at 11:00 am at Double Heads Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Wall and Rev. BJ Horne officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 before the service. Interment will follow in the Double Heads Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tanner Forehand, Everett Smith, Jay Derriso, Dent Derriso, Robert Weaver, and Ray Lariscy. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Double Heads Baptist Church, Kim Norton, and Margie Williams. Memorial contributions may be made to the Double Heads Baptist Church, 141 Captola Road, Sylvania, GA 30467, or to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531 Statesboro, GA 30459.
