Waynard Scott, affectionately known as Scotty, was born on May 12, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Ernest Lee Scott and Blanch Hendrix.
He spent his formative years in the Atlanta area, attending school. A dedicated part of his life was in service to his country in the Navy, later culminating in a fulfilling career with the US Postal Service before his retirement.
An avid fisherman who found solace by the waterside, Scotty’s passion for angling and clay shooting at the Baygall Sporting Clays brought him immense joy. He was known for his hospitality, often hosting fish fry gatherings and preparing meals for his loved ones. His loyal companion, Belle, his beloved fur baby, was a steadfast source of comfort and companionship in his daily life.
Scotty was preceded in death by his parents, his son Russell Lee Scott, and his longtime sweetheart, Pat Anderson.
He is survived by a loving circle of family and friends, including his stepdaughter, Dr. Karen Beasley Grabenstein (Fred) of Statesboro; grandson, Kaide Grabenstein of Statesboro; special nephew, Jason Townsend (Danielle) of Guyton; sister, Sandra Johnson of Statesboro; brother, Raymond Scott (Bobbi) of Stockbridge; special niece, Cindy Strickland-Weber of Kingsland; nephew, Waylon Johnson; and longtime friend, Elise Gray of Wilmington Island. Great-nieces Courtney and Morgan, and great-nephew JT, whom he loved as his grandchildren. He also leaves behind his beloved Belle and holds a special place in his heart for his cousin and longtime friend, Tump Hendrix of Baygall.
Acknowledgment is extended to his dear neighbors, Sherri and Danny Litchfield and family, Joyce and Nick Studier, and Cassie and Jeremy Batayias, for their unwavering friendship and support that enriched Scotty’s life. He cherished a special bond with Cora McCallister and her parents, as well as Trey Wagner, whom he considered his adopted children. The family would also like to recognize the members of the Baygall Sporting Clays community.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and a marker will be placed in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church in the family plot of his grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Scotty’s memory can be made to the Baygall Sporting Clays organization. The family deeply appreciates your support during this challenging time.
Though Scotty’s physical presence may no longer grace us, his legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories will forever endure in our hearts.
