Authorities Looking for Violent Inmate Who Escaped from Screven Co. Jail

Law enforcement authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Screven County Jail on Saturday evening.

The Screven County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media in the middle of the night on 2/14/21 that Frederick Lamont Jones, aged 38, escaped. He was being held in the Screven County jail on armed robbery charges.

The Sheriff’s Office did not mention any additional information on Jones or where they believe he may be, though he is also facing aggravated assault charges as he is the man charged with the 2019 violent attack of Sylvania PoJo’s gas station clerk. Jones beat a female clerk in her 60s with a baseball bat. He was on probation at the time of that attack.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Anyone with information regarding his location is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 912-564-2013.
