GBI Ties Man Arrested in Glennville Murder to Murder in Wayne County

On Monday, August 30, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation secured warrants for Christopher Reginald Sumlin, 31, of Jonesboro, Georgia for the murder of Jerry Lee Davis that occurred on January 13, 2021.

Sumlin was arrested and charged with Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Cruelty to Children, and Burglary.

Jerry Lee Davis was 31-years-old when he was killed. He was shot multiple times at his home in Wayne County.

Sumlin was already in custody in the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office on charges related to a death in Glennville, Georgia. In that case, Sumlin, Aerial De Shay Murphy of Vidalia, and Keisha Janae Jones of Ludowici were charged last week. On Saturday, January 30, 2021, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a death investigation. Bobby Carlton Kicklighter, age 88, was found deceased in his home from apparent gunshot wounds on Pinewood Lane.

On August 25, the GBI charged 25-year-old Georgia Department of Corrections inmate Nathan Weekes with Conspiracy to Commit a Felony (Murder) and Party to a Crime in relation to the murder of Bobby Kicklighter. The murder investigation showed that Weekes was involved with contraband smuggling inside Smith State Prison and the GBI said the two investigations are related.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Corrections assisted in the investigation of the death of Jerry Lee Davis.

The investigation remains open and ongoing and anyone with additional information can contact the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at 912-729-6198.  Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at https://gbi.georgia.gov.submit-tips-online, or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
